  • Have you made an appointment with your advisor?
  • Are you unsure about your major and need to speak with someone?
  • Did you know that students who meet with their advisor once a semester have the greatest success?

Finding the Right Major for You

  • Degrees for Transfer
If you are planning to earn a bachelor's degree at a four-year college or university, you can start your education at Nashville State Community College. The primary goal of the AA, AFA, AS, and AST degrees is to prepare students to pursue the baccalaureate degree. Students must successfully complete the general education core requirements plus 19 hours in an area of emphasis. Additional 6–8 hours of college foreigh language are required for AA candidates.

  • Career and Technical Degrees
If you are interested in career or technical fields, the AAS degree is the choice for you. The primary goal of the AAS degree is to prepare students for immediate employment and give them the skills to enter the work force. Students seeking AAS degrees must successfully complete 60 hours of required courses as designated by each program. Concentration for each program offer further specialization.

  • Want to enter the job market quickly?
If you are interested in career or technical fields, a technical certificate is another option. These typically one-year programs emphasize basic technical knowledge that is reinforced through hands-on experience. Students are prepared for entry-level positions through 30 to 32 hours of classroom and laboratory learning.
Transfer Opportunities: The certificate programs are designed so that students can apply all of the required courses toward Nashville State AAS degrees. Consult your advisor about articulation options.
